Laser Hair Removal  ·  Summer Prep

Summer in Dubai is coming. Your skin should be ready before it arrives.

Why starting laser hair removal now — not in October — is the decision you'll thank yourself for. And why the machine matters just as much as the timing.

If you've ever thought about laser hair removal, you've probably also thought: I'll start when I'm ready. When it cools down. After the holidays. After Ramadan. After summer.

Here's the problem with that logic: laser hair removal doesn't work like a haircut. You can't walk in a week before pool season and walk out hair-free. The process takes time — and the best results come to those who plan ahead.

In Dubai, where summer means near-daily swimwear, open-toed shoes, and sleeveless everything for months on end, getting the timing right isn't just convenient. It's the difference between dreading summer and actually enjoying it.

Why timing is everything with laser hair removal

Hair grows in three distinct cycles: the active growth phase (anagen), the transitional phase (catagen), and the resting phase (telogen). Laser hair removal only works on hair in the active growth phase — because that's when the hair follicle is connected to its blood supply and most vulnerable to the laser's energy.

At any given time, only a portion of your hair is in the anagen phase. This is exactly why a single session won't get you there — and why multiple sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, are needed to catch each follicle at the right moment.

"To be truly summer-ready, most people need 6 to 8 sessions. That means starting your programme at least 4 to 6 months before you want to be hair-free."

For Dubai summers — which ramp up from around April and peak through to September — the ideal start window is November through to February. Starting now puts you comfortably ahead of the season, with full results locked in before the heat hits.

Your pre-summer treatment timeline
Now — Session 1 Start here
Consultation, patch test, and first full treatment. Baseline established, first follicles targeted.
6–8 weeks later — Session 2 & 3
Hair visibly finer and patchier. Follicles in new growth cycles targeted. Noticeable reduction begins.
3–4 months in — Sessions 4 & 5
Significant reduction across treated areas. Most clients see 60–80% reduction by this point.
5–6 months — Sessions 6–8
Near-complete clearance. Summer-ready. Smooth, maintenance-free skin just in time for pool season.

Used by leading clinics and dermatologists worldwide, the GentleMax Pro has been trusted across more than 8 million treatments. Its patented technology is built around one principle: delivering maximum efficacy with maximum safety — for every skin tone and every hair type.

How the GentleMax Pro actually works

Understanding the technology helps you understand why results are so lasting. The science is called selective photothermolysis — a precise process that targets the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin.

01
Laser energy is delivered to the skin
The GentleMax Pro emits a concentrated pulse of laser light at either 755 nm or 1064 nm — chosen by your clinician based on your skin tone and hair type. The 755 nm Alexandrite laser is faster and highly effective for lighter skin tones; the 1064 nm Nd:YAG penetrates deeper, making it the safe choice for darker and olive complexions common in the UAE.
02
Melanin in the hair absorbs the light
The laser energy is absorbed specifically by the melanin (pigment) in the hair shaft and follicle. Because melanin absorbs the light selectively, the surrounding skin tissue is largely unaffected — this is the "selective" part of selective photothermolysis.
03
Heat damages the follicle
The absorbed light converts to heat, which travels down the hair shaft to the follicle. This heat damages the follicle's ability to produce new hair — significantly impairing regrowth. Follicles treated during the active anagen phase are most affected, which is why repeat sessions are needed to catch all follicles at the right stage.
04
The DCD™ keeps skin protected throughout
Before each laser pulse, Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™) releases a micro-burst of cryogen — a cooling agent — directly onto the skin. This protects the epidermis from heat while allowing the laser energy to reach the follicle below. The result is a safer, more comfortable treatment with virtually no downtime.

Why the GentleMax Pro is particularly important for Dubai skin

Dubai is one of the most diverse cities in the world — which means the skin tones walking through our door range across the full Fitzpatrick scale, from Type I to Type VI. This matters enormously in laser hair removal, because many older systems are simply not safe to use on darker skin tones. They risk burning, scarring, or causing hyperpigmentation.

The GentleMax Pro's 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength was specifically developed for this. At 1064 nm, the laser bypasses the melanin in the skin's surface and targets the follicle directly — making it the safest and most effective option for South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African skin tones.

Waxing vs. shaving vs. laser — the honest comparison

Waxing & Shaving
Temporary results only — regrowth in days to weeks. Ongoing cost and time commitment. Risk of ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and irritation. Can't wear swimwear immediately after waxing.
Candela GentleMax Pro
Permanent hair reduction after a full course. No more razor burns, ingrown hairs, or last-minute panic waxing. Smooth skin maintained year-round with minimal top-up sessions.
Other laser systems
Many IPL and cheaper laser systems are not safe or effective for darker skin tones, and have larger risk of burns or uneven results without proper skin cooling.
GentleMax Pro advantage
Dual wavelength covers all skin tones safely. DCD™ cooling minimises discomfort and risk. Largest spot sizes mean faster sessions and proven clinical results across millions of treatments.

Common questions answered

Does laser hair removal hurt?
With the GentleMax Pro's DCD™ cooling system, most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap or mild warmth — significantly more comfortable than waxing. The cooling device releases a cryogen mist before each pulse, which protects the skin surface and dramatically reduces discomfort.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
Yes — and this is where the GentleMax Pro genuinely stands apart. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is specifically designed for Fitzpatrick skin types IV through VI, making it safe and effective for South Asian, Middle Eastern, and deeper African skin tones. Your clinician will assess your skin type at consultation and select the appropriate wavelength and settings.
How long does a session take?
Thanks to the GentleMax Pro's large 24 mm spot size and speed of up to 10 Hz, treatment times are significantly faster than most other systems. Underarms take around 7–10 minutes, a full bikini 15–20 minutes, and full legs around 30 minutes.
Can I go in the sun before or after treatment?
You should avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least 2–4 weeks before and after treatment, as tanned skin increases the risk of pigmentation changes. Living in Dubai, this means being mindful of daily UV — another reason why starting treatments in the cooler months is ideal. Your clinician will advise on SPF routines between sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients achieve 85–90%+ reduction after 6–8 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. The number can vary based on hair colour, thickness, the area being treated, and your hormonal profile. Your clinician will give you a personalised estimate at your consultation.
